In this tutorial I am going to write about the steps involved in .com Domain Registration.

Let’s start the current tutorial:

.com Domain Registration
My preferred company for all my .com domain name registration is GoDaddy
. The two main reasons for my choice are:

  • Its a reputable company.
  • The price for domain name registration is very low.

Check Available Domain Names
The next step is to begin your domain name search. We might not always get the domain name of our choice. Our first choice domain names might already be taken. This is where compromise comes in. Keep checking various combinations of domain names until you find the one you are happy with. For example: My first choice for this site was the domain name ‘webhosting.com’. This domain name was not available. I tried various combinations of the original domain name and finally registered the domain name - ‘BestAndCheapWebHosting.com’.

  • Once you are on GoDaddy website, enter your domain name of choice (next to the box with the words ‘Start a domain search’) and click ‘GO’.

  • If your first choice for a domain name is not available, don’t get disheartened - keep trying various combinations and settle on the one that meets your criteria.

Available Domain Names
When you finally find an available domain name the screen says ‘domain name is available’. This to me is the happy screen. I prefer domain names ending with .com. I don’t mind even if I don’t get my first choice, I prefer to make a few compromises and go for .com rather than .org or other domain endings.

  • Once you are happy with the available domain name, click ‘Continue’.

Wrap Up The Internet Domain Name Registration
In this section we finish the registration process (ie we are basically buying the domain name)

  • If you already have an account with GoDaddy then select ‘Login to an existing account’. This is the option I am selecting because I already have an account with GoDaddy. If you select this option then enter your ‘Login Name’ and ‘Password’ and click ‘Secure Login’.
  • If you don’t have an account with GoDaddy then select ‘I would like to create a new GoDaddy account’. If you select this option you have to then enter all your name and address details under ‘Create your domain registration information’.

  • On the screen that follows select 1 year as your registration length. If you however prefer to register the domain name for a longer period please go ahead and select a different registration length. GoDaddy allows you to select registration length up to 10 years.
  • For the Plan Features I usually select Deluxe. I like the extra security this option gives me. You can also select Protected if you prefer more security. The features of each of these options will be clearly explained on the screen.
  • Under Select Checkout Preference, I don’t have anything to customize. So I normally just select ‘No thanks. I’m ready to checkout’.
  • Finally click ‘Continue’.

  • The next screen gives you more options. The following is a snapshot of the next image.

Purchase Domain Name
  • Click ‘Remove’ next to ‘Business Registration’
  • Click ‘Remove’ next to Private Registration Services’
  • Select your ‘Payment Method’. For this domain name I am paying using my paypal account.
  • Tick the check boxes next to point 3 (after reading the agreement terms ofcourse)
  • Click ‘Checkout Now’.

Thats it you have completed the domain registration. GoDaddy will give you the order confirmation report. Please print it and store it away for your records.
